Name: Karen Gartner
I have been involved in birth work since 1998, which began with the study of breastfeeding physiology and support. In 2000, I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and worked 3 years as a NICU nurse, before starting my own family.
My husband and I moved to North Carolina in 2005, with our daughter, looking for a peaceful place to raise our family. Since then, 3 more children have joined our family! I have personally had a hospital induced birth and two homebirths. After the birth of my oldest daughter, I began to study birth-related topics in-depth, with a focus on normal, physiological birth while also studying evidence-based research concerning interventions and alternatives. I became a La Leche League Leader and volunteered for 3 years, serving mothers in my community. My doula work naturally followed, beginning in 2006 and grew through word of mouth by satisfied clients!
In 2016 I began formal training as a childbirth educator. I am constantly looking for ways to expand my knowledge to better serve my clients and students. In the fall of 2018 I will attend a Spinning Babies Workshop and a Rebozo Workshop.
I use an interactive approach in teaching. I use a wide array of tools and hands-on techniques with my clients to provide physical, emotional and evidence-based informational support throughout pregnancy, labor, birth and the early postpartum period. Through interaction and open discussion with my clients and students, my doula services and classes are tailored to fit each individual birthing mother's needs as well as those of her family.
The classes I teach are not only extremely informative and in-depth, they are also fun! They include hands-on labor rehearsal practice, relaxation practice as well as interactive and meaningful games that help students apply what they've learned.
I serve families within an hour of Shelby, North Carolina including (but not limited to): Gastonia, Forest City, Charlotte, and Spartanburg and Greenville in South Carolina. I will serve families outside of this area in special situations. I attend hospital births within an hour of Shelby as well as birthing centers in Statesville, Charlotte, Spartanburg and Greenville. I will also attend home births within an hour of Shelby NC.

Rebecca Duerr is a Integrative Nutritionist, Certified Doula and Placenta Specialist, and loving wife and mother to her four daughters in Mooresville, NC. Rebecca specializes in working with women who would like to naturally improve their health, increase their fertility, have a positive natural pregnancy and birth experience and have a happy and relaxing postpartum period to enjoy their new baby. She gives women the support they need to have the personal life, pregnancy experience, and family life that they have always wanted and deserve.
Rebecca’s passion for helping women reach their health goals developed from her own experiences with pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Her oldest daughter was born at home after a healthy pregnancy and her twin daughters were born naturally at a maternity center after another healthy pregnancy. She was able to use therapeutic foods as well as get the support she needed to have the pregnancies and births that she always imagined having. There is a lack of support for women who want to reach and maintain their optimal health before, during and after their pregnancy. Rebecca is that support. Her experiences, education and passion to help women during a time that can feel stressful, lonely and full of guessing games can lead to a more calm, fulfilling and satisfying motherhood.
Rebecca has a Master's of Science in Nutrition and Integrative Health, from the Maryland University of Integrative Health (MS). She is currently accumulating the required clinical hours to obtain her North Carolina Dietetics/Nutrition License (LDN), as well as her Certificate of Nutrition Specialist (CNS). My desire to become a doula began after having my two children and realizing the importance of having a birth team that supports the woman and her birthing options. Birth is a beautiful and unique experience and so often the opposite is portrayed leaving fear and self-doubt. I believe in the strength of women to birth! As a doula my goal is to support women in reaching their ideal birth as best as possible and feeling the sense of empowerment through an amazing birth experience!

Short bio: When I was pregnant with my first child, I knew I wanted a natural childbirth. It was the most beautiful, life altering experience I could have imagined. I was hooked! Those endorphins did their job; I absolutely LOVED the whole process of labor and birth! I loved it so much I have done it four more times since then! My Bradley teacher (who was also my labor doula) became my mentor. I began my journey as a doula and childbirth educator in the fall of 2006. Since then I have been blessed to witness many couples become families and families grow larger. I am always honored to be asked to be a part of the birth team, whether as a childbirth educator or as a doula. When I teach my childbirth class, my goal is to empower families to make choices in their pregnancy and birth that represent what they want, need, and believe for their birth. Of course that is going to look very different for everyone. As a doula I strive to be a source of information during the pregnancy and physical, mental, and emotional support during the labor and birth.

Short bio: I've always had a passion for childbirth but it wasn't until delivering my son in 2016 that I decided to pursue it as a career. My goal as a doula is to provide women with a birthing experience of their own design. I seek a holistic approach, recognizing that maternity care goes well beyond the womb and extends towards educational, emotional, physical, and spiritual support. I don't want to simply check in on my clients occasionally, but rather, I will be praying for them often, as well as sending along any resources I believe may be beneficial. I also offer birth photography and will gladly manage both the roles of doula and photographer at my clients' births.
I'm a mama of just one child right now, but my husband and I hope we'll be blessed with lots of kiddos in the future. We transferred to Charlotte 7 years ago from Ohio, worked together in education for 5 years, and would love to call the Carolinas home for the rest of our lives.
I believe every person on this Earth is given a divine story, crafted especially for them by God. That is why I love birth so much-- you get to watch the beginning of an eternal story that was written before the world began. There's nothing more amazing! It would be an honor to journey alongside you as your child's story combines with yours in real life.

I’m Magdalena and a passionate birthing doula with a love for, family, birth and life … I witnessed a birth of a baby born where my mom acted as a midwife while I was at the young age of three, peeping through a half opened door while my mom were running back and forth with water in scissors. My curiosity flame was lit at this age and never stopped loving babies, birth and the passion and energy that comes with it is enigmatic! Body, soul and spirit are integrated and being a Billy Graham Chaplain with a Masters degree in Biblical studies, I also have a love for new life, nutrition, essential oils and healing prayer. I believe that birthing is as much a spiritual experience as well as a physical experience and that coaching are very much part of it. I always love to encourage and I will be your birthing marathon coach cheering you on over the finish line of one the most memorable days of your life.

Facebook page: Aussie Doula
BIO: My name is Helen Herzig, and I am the Aussie Doula. I am a mum to five children aged from 5 to 16. I am originally from Australia and have been living here in Charlotte for the last nine years, and feel fortunate to call it home. I have had five natural births, both in the home and hospital setting, and breast feed all five of my children. My path to becoming a doula was quite an accidental one. I witnessed the birth of my nephew 17 years ago and was struck with the amazing capability and power of birth. I then became the go-to person when friends were wanting a maternal support in addition to their husbands or partners. I didn’t even know what a doula was. Then a few years ago, another dear friend asked if I would support her as her doula. It was a pivotal moment when I decided on her request that “you should be doing this for other moms, you are a natural”. So began my path to my doula career. I have been serving families in the Charlotte area for the last 3 years. I have attended all kinds of births and feel that a mother should be supported in her birth journey, whatever that may be. I have served families in natural, epidural, VBAC and caesarean births. I am familiar with the area hospitals, and have a great working relationship with many providers. I would love to accompany you along in your birth journey.
Services: I am a certified birth doula with Prodoula and I am also trained in Postpartum doula care. I also offer placental encapsulation services.
Areas: I serve all the hospitals in the Greater Charlotte Area, as well as Cabarrus County and Huntersville.
bio: My first birth was difficult and traumatic, but having the support of a doula made a life changing difference for me. In those postpartum months afterwards I began researching all things birth and listening to the stories of other mothers. This not only helped heal the birth trauma I had experienced, it enabled me to realize a passion that was buried deep within me. In talking to mothers I noticed a recurring theme of their births being this rite of passage, a pivotal point in their journey that seemed to really set the tone in their mothering experiences. What was even more interesting is how each mother seemed to remember every detail of their births…what was said, what was done to them, and how they were treated. In reflecting on my own birth, I came to realize that the doula support I received was crucial and truly enabled me to still be fully supported even in a birth that was less than ideal. It became clear to me that I needed to channel my passion for empowering birthing women through doula work. In 2010 I trained with DONA and began attending births shortly thereafter. My next three children were born peacefully at home. Their births were incredibly healing and such beautiful spiritual transformations. My hope is that every woman in my care experiences the same love and support that I felt during these labors. I believe with all of my heart that our bodies work and birth works. We were made to grow, birth, and feed our babies. Birth is a normal and natural process, not a pathological problem to be solved. Bringing forth life is a beautiful and transformative rite of passage, as well as a life changing experience that women will carry with them for their entire lives. Every mother needs non-judgmental support and to feel safe and empowered. I will support you in your choices and work hard to hold space for you during your pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum.

I am a Labor/Birth Assistant. I received my training through DONA International, which is the oldest, largest, and respected doula associations. I am a native of Charlotte, North Carolina, which you don’t find here often. I have been married to my awesome husband for 10 years. We have four handsome boys; three of which are triplets! We conceived all of our children through In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). During my four years of fertility challenges, I was able to guide a number of women through their fertility challenges by giving advice, sharing my experiences, and offering support. I never thought, what seemed like, my “misfortune” would help give someone the hope and confidence they needed to communicate to their doctor and to move forward emotionally. To this day, I am sought for information and advice regarding conception for the fertility challenged. Becoming a Birth Doula, was another stepping stone to inform, encourage, empower, and support you during one of the most joyous times of your life. I want to be the calming presence during your labor and delivery whether it’s your first child or fourth.
When I’m not researching “all things birth”, I love bike riding and hiking with my family! I enjoy playing games that involve teams. For me, playing sports such as football and softball are so much better than watching it on television. Also, enjoying a good movie while drinking coffee with my husband is how I unwind for the evening.
We should never consider ourselves equal to our male companions because there is something that only we can do…Give Birth! I believe that every healthy soon-to-be mom has a choice on how she should labor and give birth! Our bodies are designed for it. Emotionally and physically, we may not know what is going on with our bodies when we labor, but our bodies do! Being respectful of one’s body is the best avenue to take. During labor, interferences can inhibit labor. Dr. Michel Odent says it best… “When you consider birth as an involuntary process involving old, mammalian structures of the brain, you set aside the assumption that a woman must learn to give birth. It is implicit in the mammalian interpretation that one cannot actively help a woman to give birth. The goal is to avoid disturbing her unnecessarily.” Your birth, your way!

Bio: Hi, I’m Emily McGregor—the Rosewater Doula. My family and I recently moved to Charlotte NC, but I grew up in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. There I fell in love with all things “crunchy” and holistic, I tell people—its in my “evergreen”-roots. Seven years ago my sister invited me to the homebirth of her son. The experience left me spellbound. My sister’s midwife told me I had a gift, and suggested I become a doula. At the time, I didn’t even know what the word “doula” meant, but I nevertheless felt called to serve birthing people. Years later, my sister then comforted and supported me (and my partner!) during the labor and arrival of my own daughter. Bringing my daughter into the world under such loving circumstances taught me what a doula truly was, and how greatly they are needed in today’s society. I trained with DONA International shortly after. I am enthusiastic, compassionate, and always working to stay current with evidence-based research. I bring harmony and security into a birth space, while empowering birthing people and their partners. I strive to anticipate my client’s needs, and am a strong advocate for their individual values and vision. I feel proud and privileged to work among the other amazing doulas here in Charlotte.

The support given to me from my husband, family, friends and doulas helped me have labor experiences I would be happy to repeat. Uplifting a woman’s own strength and needs at a time when she can be most venerable or unsure is my goal.

Since 2007, Chloe has been attending in and out of hospital births and believes with the proper support and preparation women can have a safe and satisfying birth no matter where they choose to deliver. She has over four years of personal breastfeeding experience and has been active in attending La Leche League meetings, an international breastfeeding support network, since her children were born. After putting her trust in doulas to help guide her through her own birth experiences, she became deeply driven to become a doula herself. It is her sincere desire to offer the information, education and support women need to make their own empowered choices in birth and parenting. Name: Abby Corbett
Short bio: Hi, I’m Abby Corbett – a birth doula, educator, wife, and mother (to 3 little ones). My passion is in educating and inspiring others. Prior to becoming a doula, I worked for a few years teaching high school, tutoring, coaching girls’ soccer, and as an editor. I’ve lived in North Carolina for almost 7 years now, but I grew up in Virginia. There is truth behind the phrase “Virginia is for lovers” because that is where I met and married my husband (Logan) in 2009. Fast forward a few years later, I became pregnant with our first child and dived right into the birth community – taking childbirth education classes, touring hospitals/birth centers, researching baby gear, creating a birth vision, and finding a supportive birth team. I gave birth to my son in 2011 with the unwavering support of my labor coach (my husband) and a trained, compassionate midwife by my side. The experience changed my life – it was sacred and beautiful! It allowed me to bear witness to the strength of my mind and body to birth a baby AND to witness the invaluable strength of having continuous support in a birth space. I have since birthed two more babies (girls!) into the family, born in 2013 and 2016. After my youngest was born, a spark ignited inside of me and it shined forth when I finally realized my calling as a birth doula. I am truly humbled and honored to use my voice, my hands, and my heart to inspire women and their families as they bring their babies into the world. I believe every woman deserves a doula and I welcome the opportunity to facilitate that.

Short bio: I'm a trained birth doula who found myself immersed in birth community during my first pregnancy and birth in 2012 - and jumped in with both feet. We welcomed our second child in 2014 and both births were such a positive experience that I want that for all parents - supported, in control, and informed. I don't believe in the rather common “It’s just one day, you can get through it” attitude – every parent I've met has strong feelings around their birth experience and the memories last a lifetime. I feel that education and one-on-one support are absolutely the best thing parents need during their transition into parenthood.
Services offered: Labor and birth doula, one-on-one and small group childbirth education, placenta encapsulation, and belly casting
Trainings/Certifications: Dar la Luz Birth Doula 2012, Babywearing Intl Volunteer Babywearing Educator 2014, CPR and NRP certified biennially
Areas/hospitals served: Hospital, home, or birth center in the Greater Charlotte area, Huntersville, and SC
Bio: I have an amazingly supportive husband and together we have 5 awesome children as well as 3 beautiful, amazing grandchildren (with hope for more to come). I have been supporting women and families during pregnancy, birth and early parenting for more than 27 years. My first birth experience was so empowering that I soon became addicted to all things pertaining to birth. I began attending the births of family and friends at every opportunity. I have many years' experience as a health educator in public health, providing in-home pregnancy and parenting education as well as labor support. I have been a doula since before I knew what a doula was! I believe with all of my heart that this is God’s calling for my life!
I believe that birth is a sacred event and that a woman has an inner wisdom that guides her through her birth. I passionately believe in a woman’s innate, God given ability to birth her baby! I believe a woman has the right as well as the responsibility to make healthy, informed choices for herself; her pregnancy and her baby, to birth where and how she chooses and to have people around her that fully support these choices. I strongly believe in the importance of wondrous, joyful birth memories! I believe that a positive birth experience will empower new parents in all areas of their lives!

Postpartum doula info:
When I gave birth to my first 3 children my husband and mother both worked full time and they were unable to provide as much help as I would have liked. My mother was able to come and stay with me for a few days after my 4th child was born and I was able to spend memorable time getting to know my newborn as well as introducing her to her big sister and brothers in a calm, relaxing way without worrying about what I was going to feed them for lunch or when I would have time to do the laundry. I felt like a queen! Twenty six years later, I still have such positive memories of that time. I also spent many years providing prenatal and postpartum support and education on a full time basis in a public health setting. I have had much training in all things postpartum including breastfeeding, postpartum emotions, newborn care and early parenting. I am a true believer in the concept of mothering the mother.
Parenting is an amazing and yes, let's be honest, some days exhausting journey! In days gone by, new parents were surrounded by family, friends and neighbors helping out in numerous ways. These days, with some families living quite a distance from each other and everyone having such busy lives, new parents are often left on their own. Although this is a wonderful time for family bonding and getting to know your new baby, an extra pair of hands can be invaluable! Not having to worry about household tasks and having someone knowledgeable and supportive available when needed will allow new parents to concentrate on the more important tasks like getting to know their newborns, as well as getting much needed rest!
Services: tailored to fit needs of family including light housework, light meal preparation, running errands, caring for siblings, breastfeeding education, support and resources, postpartum emotional support and resources. Basic infant care education available if needed (diapering, bathing, etc.)
Training: NWAHEC lactation educator training; parenting education training through NC Maternal Care Coordination/Baby Love Program; NC Child passenger safety training

Having a baby is no small feat! It is a monumental experience in a woman’s life that will forever change her. The process is filled with many emotions and physical changes. It is a powerful, profound experience and change that every woman will experience in her own unique way. A doula’s role is to support a woman on her special journey. The doula empowers her, guides her through all the information and choices regarding pregnancy, birth and motherhood. The doula honors the woman’s wishes and decisions and helps her create a vision for herself, her baby and her family. The doula is there for her and her partner, walking the path alongside them with honest, caring and non judgmental support of their choices. The doula knows that every woman has what it takes to birth her baby and become the mother she is meant to be.
BIO: Hi, I’m Cady! It is my passion and purpose to serve women as a birth and postpartum doula. This passion was kindled for me when I became a mother to my own children, and has grown over the years while remaining active in different aspects of birth and prenatal care. My own birth experiences were as unique as my children themselves. One baby born in the middle of the night at a hospital during a huge snowstorm and one at my home on a calm and sunny morning. Both of these births were benefited by my skills as a student of yoga. I have been practicing yoga for many years and became certified to teach in 2002 and in 2003 trained and certified in prenatal and postpartum yoga. Name: Mena Lee
Wife, Mother, Mentor.
I began promoting natural birthing seventeen years ago after enduring a crisis after giving birth to my second child in 2001. It was an induction gone wrong, that lead to an emergency cesarean, that lead to my baby and I both being placed in ICU for a week. Finally after getting home, I went through severe postpartum depression for two months. At the third month, I discovered that I was pregnant again!
With a whirlwind of emotions going on inside of me, I knew that something had to be done different about this pregnancy. I decided to have a natural VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean). But even that decision wasn't an easy journey. My obstetrician did not recommend a vaginal birth due to the fact that my pregnancy was too close to my cesarean, so there were risks associated with it. However, after doing months of research, I decided to pressed on.
In September of 2002, I gave birth to a healthy 7 pound, 6 ounce baby....naturally! It was (and still is) one of the best and most fulfilling decisions of my life.
Throughout the years I have shared my story with many moms and moms-to-be. I have assisted with multiple vaginal births, educated women on having healthy lifestyles during pregnancy, and have volunteered time, love and support for those who unexpected pregnancies brought crisis into their lives.
I promote and support natural birthing, VBACs (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean), and breast-feeding. I also support families who chose not to vaccinate their children, home births, and lend an effective support system for those who have suddenly lost their baby due to unforeseen circumstances (still-births, miscarriage, SIDs, etc).
I look forward to taking this journey with you.
Description of services offered:
Labor & Delivery Doula
Charlotte Metro Area (including Fort Mill & Rock Hill, SC)
Hi! My name is Krista Mohrmann, and I've been passionate about mommies and babies since I was a little girl playing with my dolls. When I grew up I discovered that I wanted to help them both in a real and meaningful way. I did research on pregnancy, birth practices, breastfeeding, the role of nutrition, labor and delivery stories ... and I thought my way of helping would be through becoming a nurse midwife. However, my path to become a doula became crystal clear when I needed to stop my nursing training to become a mommy, and I am so very happy I did!
I grew up in both California and Washington State, and have lived in many places across the country, both east and west coasts. I've always called myself a "bit of a gypsy" because of my moving, but when I married I knew we would be settling down and calling Charlotte home. I've lived in the greater Charlotte area now for 4 years and I love it.
I love the people, I love the culture, I love the weather.
The births and postpartum families I have assisted have taught me so much hands-on, and CAPPA helped teach me the skills and book knowledge a doula needs. I would love to put that experience to use and help you bring your little one into this world, and help you be confident in being a parent to this new life.
CAPPA trained in both Labor and Postpartum.
Greater Charlotte area- Denver, Lincolnton, Huntersville, Mooresville, Cornelius, Statesville, Davidson, Charlotte. (Generally a 1 hour radius from Denver/Huntersville)
I am not opposed to working in any of the area hospitals.
I became a labor doula in 2011 and completed my CAPPA labor doula certification in 2013. As of October 2015 I have attended around 50 births. Being a doula, my heartbeat is for woman to be educated in relation to the birth process, empowered by their birth experience and have access to high quality care in which they are autonomous.
I have always had a love for pregnant women and birth. As a high school student I was able to attend my first birth and was hooked. I went to college, graduated and began my career teaching elementary school. Although I loved teaching and being with children, I found myself constantly drawn back to birth. Through the process of asking questions and having conversations with many women in the birth community while simultaneously doing a lot of my own research, I became shocked at the culture of birth in America. In my research I found that many women are not being fully or properly informed of their birth options and are not always supported by their care providers in their choices. This has led to outcomes/experiences women are disappointed with.
As a doula, my objective is to support you and your husband in the birth plan of your choosing. My goal is for you to be empowered through prenatal education, emotional, physical, and informational support as well as support you in various comfort measures during labor. I hope that as a result of this, both you and your husband will be satisfied with your birth experience. All women deserve the birth of their choosing that is best for themselves and their babies. I would love to support you in attaining the birth you desire!

Hello! My name is Fametta Darling and I come to this work after years in more academic shoes. My background is in Project Management, but after experiencing the birth of my son, I knew that my real passion was the hands-on work of serving birthing families as a holistic doula and childbirth educator. As a doula and birth worker, I offer holistic care for your pregnancy, birth and postpartum period; physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional elements are upheld and given space during this transformative time, to ensure a positive and empowering birth experience.
I believe that the process of human childbirth is a normal physiological process perfectly designed by nature to bring babies into the world. It is an instinctive, primal experience that has its own rhythm and pace which should be respected and honored. Women should have as much control as possible in determining their care, and should be encouraged to be active participants in decision-making and self-care. When informed, supported and encouraged to follow their own instincts, women can be active givers of birth rather than passive receivers of birth technology. Childbirth, when experienced in this way, has the potential to be a transformative event; women who take responsibility for their births and give birth to their babies under their own power, emerge from the experience empowered, with a new sense of their own capabilities. My philosophy emphasizes personalized care for each mother’s unique labor and delivery. It is my goal to help foster confidence in the mother and her ability to give birth.
I am also a proud and constant ally of the LGBTQA - identifying members of the birthing community.

Name: Kira Figg
Bio: My name is Kira Figg, loving wife & mother. My passion for birth work started with the birth of my daughter in 2016. I was fortunate to have a wonderful doula along with the support of my husband for my daughter’s birth. It was the most rewarding hard work I’ve ever done. I truly believe every mother deserves a doula by her and her partners side. The wisdom, encouragement, and constant support of a doula was invaluable to both of us.
My background for the last 11 years was serving the needs of patients working at Charlotte Radiology in all capacities at the breast centers, imaging centers, and in the interventional radiology department. My experience there serves me well with helping with the delicate needs of families. I am a native to the Charlotte area and love it so much I plan to raise my children here.
As a doula, I empower mothers and their partners through education and emotional & physical support to have their best birth, whatever their choices may be. I am passionate about helping mothers achieve a positive birth experience.

Hi, I'm Lauren. I was raised in Northern Virginia, studied in Florida, and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Theology. This is where I met my husband, who was born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa. After a long distance engagement, I moved my life to South Africa and was married. During my time overseas I learned how to be a part of a community, how to be both supportive and supported. Just four years later, I gave birth to my first son, Sterling, with my husband and doula by my side. This was a monumental moment in my life, where I learned just how powerful I truly am, and how my body is beautifully made. It also birthed in me the woman that I am today, that is, powerful, adaptive, beautiful and fearless. As I began feeling empowered as a women and mother, I soon developed deep passions to see other women channeling their truest form of themselves, in and during labor. It's through birth that expelled my biggest fears and brought to light who I am and what I was always made to do: support women in their pilgrimage into motherhood. I trained with DONA International and became a birth doula.
I have much love and respect for women of all cultures, ethnicities and religions. I understand that the birth of your child(ren) is a sacred moment in your life. Your experience matters. The people who surround and support you throughout labor are hand picked. As your doula, I feel honored to be invited into your birth space. I offer you an open heart to receive and empower your desired birth. My hands embrace, care for, and tend to you with compassion. I will be your constant companion.
I absolutely love the city of Charlotte and the doulas that I serve alongside. I often say, "We are better together," feeling that a collaborative effort takes you further and keeps you stronger. My backup doulas are insanely talented and passionate individuals. When working together, we are called 'The Dream Team.' Let’s meet up and see if we would be a good fit for each other.

I am a wife and mother of three with over 10 years of experience in educating and supporting mothers in breastfeeding, childbirth, and nutrition. I am a La Leche League Leader, ToLabor Professional Trained Doula, and Birth Photographer.
Although my husband and I prepared for childbirth through Bradley Method Childbirth classes and a significant amount of reading, our first two children were born by cesarean section. With a knowledgeable and supportive care provider and doula for my third birth, I was able to have a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean). Choosing a birth location that supports your needs and desires as well as a knowledgeable and supportive primary care provider is one of the most important decisions you can make that will affect the choices that you have in labor and the outcome of your birth.
My own experiences and struggles have given me a passion to help other mothers create the best opportunity for a successful natural childbirth. It is my goal to help each couple understand their options and choices, to create a loving and supportive environment where both parents feel that their desires are being heard and respected, and provide encouragement and evidence-based information along the way.

I’ve been passionate about childbirth for as long as I can remember. As a young girl and later a teenager, I was given the opportunity to attend two of my siblings’ births. I watched my mother — in awe as she exhibited such strength and grace during the birthing process. I knew from then on that I would never get enough of witnessing and playing a small part in the beautiful miracle of new life as it enters this world. I am now married and have three precious children of my own. My oldest son was born with a severe congenital heart defect. Only half of his heart developed correctly, so he arrived fighting for his life and immediately needed the first of three open-heart surgeries in order to survive. After having two more surgeries before the age of three, he is now stable and doing remarkably well. My second pregnancy held another unique set of surprises as we soon discovered we would be having not one baby, but twins — a boy and a girl — to welcome into our family. With one medically fragile child, as well as twins to chase around, it has certainly been a wild, but fun, ride. When I’m not attending a birth or spending time with my crazy kiddos, I enjoy cooking, reading, and making special memories with my family.
As the first born in a family of six children – and now having three of my own – “mothering” has always come naturally to me. It is this strong instinct to nurture, meet both physical and emotional needs, and tend to the comfort of those under my care. I believe every birthing woman should be supported in this way. As a doula, my most important job is to “mother the mother.” While the birthing mother and her partner focus on the important work of bringing a new life into this world, a doula will keep her focus on the mother’s needs, desires, and emotional well-being. I believe the birth of your child is one of the most significant moments in your life. It is my goal to help that experience be as smooth and positive as it can possibly be – helping to preserve your birth as a memory you can treasure forever.
