Hi, my name is Nicole Hunter and my love for everything birth and babies began at an early age and has been growing ever since. It was intensified after the birth of my oldest son did not go as planned, resulting in an induction and cesarean section. My second birth was followed by a very rocky postpartum period that wasn’t realized until years later. I have always been passionate about helping people, but after having children that passion became focused on mothers and families. I am REAL Doula trained and certified in birth, postpartum, and newborn care, certified in CPR and First Aid, and continue training in other childbirth related areas. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, reading, and traveling in my spare time. I am excited and honored to provide unforgettable experiences to women and their families.
I support individuals and families in hospitals, birth centers, and private homes in medicated, unmedicated, VBAC, cesarean, and high risk births. I also provide prenatal support including birth preparation, comfort measures for labor, formulating a birth plan, newborn care, hospital bag advisement, breastfeeding information, nursery/home staging, baby registry assistance, and more.

Short bio: I'm a trained birth doula who found myself immersed in birth community during my first pregnancy and birth in 2012 - and jumped in with both feet. We welcomed our second child in 2014 and both births were such a positive experience that I want that for all parents - supported, in control, and informed. I don't believe in the rather common “It’s just one day, you can get through it” attitude – every parent I've met has strong feelings around their birth experience and the memories last a lifetime. I feel that education and one-on-one support are absolutely the best thing parents need during their transition into parenthood.
Services offered: Labor and birth doula, one-on-one and small group childbirth education, placenta encapsulation, and belly casting
Trainings/Certifications: Dar la Luz Birth Doula 2012, Babywearing Intl Volunteer Babywearing Educator 2014, CPR and NRP certified biennially

Bio: I have an amazingly supportive husband and together we have 5 awesome children as well as 3 beautiful, amazing grandchildren (with hope for more to come). I have been supporting women and families during pregnancy, birth and early parenting for more than 27 years. My first birth experience was so empowering that I soon became addicted to all things pertaining to birth. I began attending the births of family and friends at every opportunity. I have many years' experience as a health educator in public health, providing in-home pregnancy and parenting education as well as labor support. I have been a doula since before I knew what a doula was! I believe with all of my heart that this is God’s calling for my life!
I believe that birth is a sacred event and that a woman has an inner wisdom that guides her through her birth. I passionately believe in a woman’s innate, God given ability to birth her baby! I believe a woman has the right as well as the responsibility to make healthy, informed choices for herself; her pregnancy and her baby, to birth where and how she chooses and to have people around her that fully support these choices. I strongly believe in the importance of wondrous, joyful birth memories! I believe that a positive birth experience will empower new parents in all areas of their lives!

Postpartum doula info:
When I gave birth to my first 3 children my husband and mother both worked full time and they were unable to provide as much help as I would have liked. My mother was able to come and stay with me for a few days after my 4th child was born and I was able to spend memorable time getting to know my newborn as well as introducing her to her big sister and brothers in a calm, relaxing way without worrying about what I was going to feed them for lunch or when I would have time to do the laundry. I felt like a queen! Twenty six years later, I still have such positive memories of that time. I also spent many years providing prenatal and postpartum support and education on a full time basis in a public health setting. I have had much training in all things postpartum including breastfeeding, postpartum emotions, newborn care and early parenting. I am a true believer in the concept of mothering the mother.
Parenting is an amazing and yes, let's be honest, some days exhausting journey! In days gone by, new parents were surrounded by family, friends and neighbors helping out in numerous ways. These days, with some families living quite a distance from each other and everyone having such busy lives, new parents are often left on their own. Although this is a wonderful time for family bonding and getting to know your new baby, an extra pair of hands can be invaluable! Not having to worry about household tasks and having someone knowledgeable and supportive available when needed will allow new parents to concentrate on the more important tasks like getting to know their newborns, as well as getting much needed rest!
Services: tailored to fit needs of family including light housework, light meal preparation, running errands, caring for siblings, breastfeeding education, support and resources, postpartum emotional support and resources. Basic infant care education available if needed (diapering, bathing, etc.)
Training: NWAHEC lactation educator training; parenting education training through NC Maternal Care Coordination/Baby Love Program; NC Child passenger safety training

Bio: I am a wife to an amazing husband and mother of two precious children. I am a former elementary teacher and fluent in Spanish. My desire to become a doula began after having my two children and realizing the importance of having a birth team that supports the woman and her birthing options. Birth is a beautiful and unique experience and so often the opposite is portrayed leaving fear and self-doubt. I believe in the strength of women to birth! As a doula my goal is to support women in reaching their ideal birth as best as possible and feeling the sense of empowerment through an amazing birth experience!

I have been involved in birth work since 1998, which began with the study of breastfeeding physiology and support. In 2000, I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and worked 3 years as a NICU nurse, before starting my own family.
My husband and I moved to North Carolina in 2005, with our daughter, looking for a peaceful place to raise our family. Since then, 3 more children have joined our family! I have personally had a hospital induced birth and two homebirths. After the birth of my oldest daughter, I began to study birth-related topics in-depth, with a focus on normal, physiological birth while also studying evidence-based research concerning interventions and alternatives. I became a La Leche League Leader and volunteered for 3 years, serving mothers in my community. My doula work naturally followed, beginning in 2006 and grew through word of mouth by satisfied clients!
In 2016 I began formal training as a childbirth educator. I am constantly looking for ways to expand my knowledge to better serve my clients and students. In the fall of 2018 I will attend a Spinning Babies Workshop and a Rebozo Workshop.
I use an interactive approach in teaching. I use a wide array of tools and hands-on techniques with my clients to provide physical, emotional and evidence-based informational support throughout pregnancy, labor, birth and the early postpartum period. Through interaction and open discussion with my clients and students, my doula services and classes are tailored to fit each individual birthing mother's needs as well as those of her family.
The classes I teach are not only extremely informative and in-depth, they are also fun! They include hands-on labor rehearsal practice, relaxation practice as well as interactive and meaningful games that help students apply what they've learned.
I serve families within an hour of Shelby, North Carolina including (but not limited to): Gastonia, Forest City, Charlotte, and Spartanburg and Greenville in South Carolina. I will serve families outside of this area in special situations. I attend hospital births within an hour of Shelby as well as birthing centers in Statesville, Charlotte, Spartanburg and Greenville. I will also attend home births within an hour of Shelby NC.

Short bio: When I was pregnant with my first child, I knew I wanted a natural childbirth. It was the most beautiful, life altering experience I could have imagined. I was hooked! Those endorphins did their job; I absolutely LOVED the whole process of labor and birth! I loved it so much I have done it four more times since then! My Bradley teacher (who was also my labor doula) became my mentor. I began my journey as a doula and childbirth educator in the fall of 2006. Since then I have been blessed to witness many couples become families and families grow larger. I am always honored to be asked to be a part of the birth team, whether as a childbirth educator or as a doula. When I teach my childbirth class, my goal is to empower families to make choices in their pregnancy and birth that represent what they want, need, and believe for their birth. Of course that is going to look very different for everyone. As a doula I strive to be a source of information during the pregnancy and physical, mental, and emotional support during the labor and birth.
Description of services offered: Childbirth Education, Lactation Education, Labor Doula
Areas/hospitals served: I serve Home Births, Birth Centers, and hospitals in of the Greater Charlotte area including Rock Hill, Huntersville, and Concord.
Name: Mellissa Willette RN, BSN, IBCLC
I am a little silly, a practitioner of humor and a believer in choice, a promoter of education and knowledge. I have long been in the business of caring for moms.
In 1999 I graduated from nursing school in Greenville, SC. I got my first job as a High Risk Obstetrical nurse. Even before I graduated from school I knew it was where I was meant to be. I have worked in the hospital setting and out of it. I have done high risk postpartum, high risk antepartum, labor and delivery and GYN care nursing. I have worked in birth center and helped home birth moms. In the almost 20 years of helping women become mothers I have learned so much and realize I have much to share.
In 2008 I became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and have helped hundreds of women achieve their breastfeeding goals. I really believe so many moms just need a little help on their breastfeeding journey and I want to help. I have over 5000 hours of helping moms breastfeed, in home, hospital and NICU settings.
I realized that affordable, reliable, experienced breastfeeding help and good quality education could improve outcomes in the community. Working in the hospital I saw how many parents didn’t have the information to feel ready to take of themselves or the new little one in their arms. Studies show this too. I developed education on what I was most passionate about. I read study after study, I pulled from my experience to create the most comprehensive classes I could. I believe multiple techniques, emotional support and trust can really help a mom through labor. I also believe in labor choice, everyone has a right to choose its your baby your body.
Description of services offered: Classes offered ( group/private and live web)
Nurtured Labor. This class is not just one technique it is many. I like lots of tools in my labor tool box. You never know what going to work when. It is not just birth but also the postpartum period as well. It is not just the physical aspects of labor but the emotional too. It discusses what happens where ever you choose to birth.
Nurtured Feeding. A breastfeeding class that rocks! So much information, how to have your partner help, normal and real expectations.
Nurtured Newborn. I always jokingly say that people will spend more time researching new puppy behavior then a babies. Why is a class better? Time to learn and ask questions. Soothing techniques, what is a normal newborn, when is crying too much, how to work as a team!
Postpartum New Moms Group. I cannot say enough how much this is needed. This is the group you did not know you needed and really did. My groups run as a cohort giving you a chance to meet and form bonds with your peers. Guest speakers with great information. A chance to talk about EVERYTHING with no judgment. You come and be you, be welcomed.
